Mark your calendar for the next meeting of the Kansas City Tea & Literature Club on Monday, October 9, 2017.
We will be reading Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh. Join our group as we will be exploring the multi-faceted chai traditions of India and our dinner will be grilled tandoori chicken and coconut lime rice, and tasting chais. If you wish to bring an appropriate Indian side dish, please do!
All ESU members and Friends of ESU are welcome and encouraged to attend our quarterly Tea & Literature Club.

REVIEWS of Sea of Poppies:
PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY: The cast is marvelous and the plot majestically serpentine, but the real hero is the English language, which has rarely felt so alive and vibrant.
THE NEW YORKER: Ghosh's best and most ambitious work yet is an adventure story set in nineteenth-century Calcutta against the backdrop of the Opium Wars. Ghosh writes with impeccable control, and with a vivid and sometimes surprising imagination:
The goal of the Kansas City Tea & Literature Club is to educate tea connoisseurs in learning about and developing an appreciation for world-class teas. Members of the Club will learn about tea varieties, tea etiquette and tea culture from around the world.
"Just because the tea festival is only once a year doesn't mean we stop learning about tea," said Nicole Burriss, founder of the festival. "This club will give an opportunity to tea enthusiasts to broaden their tea education."
The Kansas City Tea & Literature Club will feature a book tied to a tea growing region of the world at each quarterly meeting. There will be time for discussion of the book and about a 30 minute presentation on the tea traditions of the featured region. Featured books will be a mixture of fiction and non-fiction.
The Tea & Literature Club is co-sponsored with the English-Speaking Union Kansas City Branch and the Midwest Tea Fest. To learn more: Click here
