The English-Speaking Union exists to foster global understanding through educational programs that focus on teacher enrichment and support, immigrant support, scholarships and youth speaking programs. Each year, national programs serve more than 60,000 teachers, students, volunteers and immigrants around the US. Local "branches" meet to enjoy local programming and support ESU's objectives.

The Austin Branch of ESU meets 6 times, October through May, for hospitality and programs about history, culture, and current events around the English-speaking world.
