2018 Shakespeare Competition Results

Our 16 contestants in the Central Florida branch Shakespeare Competition.

On February 26, sixteen students from the tri-county area arrived at The University Club to participate in The English-Speaking Union's annual Shakespeare competition. Vying for the opportunity to win $1,000.00 for First Place, along with an additional $500.00 to cover the cost of travel and the chance to perform in New York City, this year's contenders made for difficult judging decisions. On the panel of judges this year were Anne Hering: Director of Education at The Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Kate Ingram: Associate Professor and Graduate Acting Program Coordinator at UCF, and Dr. Maurice "Socky" O'Sullivan: Professor at Rollins College's English Department.

 Valerie Trapp from Trinity Preparatory School took First Place with her portrayal of Portia from Julius Caesar and sonnet 138 under the direction of her teacher, Susan Lilley. Second Place went to Sam Marzella from Windermere High School. Sam placed with his depiction of Launce from The Two Gentlemen of Verona and sonnet 91. In Third Place was Anyae Reed who was trained at Winter Park High School. Anyae performed her interpretation of Cleopatra from Antony and Cleopatra along with sonnet 116. We wish Valerie Trapp the best of luck as she travels to the Lincoln Center to perform in the national competition on Shakespeare's birthday in April.
