Please remember that in order to be eligible to participate in the ESU National Shakespeare Competition at the branch level or above, all monologues and sonnets must be selected from the packets provided by the ESU. No exceptions.

We ask that each school winner and runner-up records in one take the monologue and sonnet. The student performer should use no props nor costume and, before performing both pieces, the student should simply introduce:

1. the student's name;

2. the play, line numbers and character delivering the monologue;

3. and the sonnet number before performing both of them.

This recording will be evaluated ONLY in the event that a sudden unforeseen circumstance, like a blizzard, precludes the possibility of holding the competition in person. The videos will NOT replace any individual performer if the competition is held in person. If the school winner is unable to attend for some reason, the school must send a runner-up to take that student's place.

Please upload your video to YouTube and enter the complete video address below. PLEASE MAKE YOUR VIDEO UNLISTED. If you have any issues with your video upload, please contact the branch coordinator.
