Members are encouraged to invite guests of all ages to enjoy a guided tour of the house, followed by dessert and tea in the Governor's Room. Admission by reservation only. Bring friends and guests; non-members will enjoy the event as well as members. Attendees will learn new and fascinating facts about the early English history of New Jersey. Both students and those who know history well will enjoy this experience.
The Proprietary House, in Perth Amboy's pre- Revolutionary district, was the residence of the Royal Governor of New Jersey, William Franklin (Ben Franklin's son). William remained loyal to the Crown even though his father attempted to change his mind. For that loyalty, William was imprisoned after the Revolution. Proprietary House brings to life the story of the English colony of New Jersey, starting in 1674 with the "two Jerseys" and two capitals. Join us for a fascinating and fun event.
