2016 Annual Churchill DinnerAlbum posted Sep 29, 2016 A festive evening was enjoyed by all at the Annual ESU Churchill Dinner held at the Naples Yacht Club on March 15, 2016. The dinner was hosted by Mrs. Alice Childs. Guests were treated to the piano music of Bruce Petsche during cocktails. The evening was highlighted with the speech by Lord Lisvane celebrating eight centuries of Magna Carta and its influence across the world, especially among the English-speaking peoples. |
2016 Naples Shakespeare CompetitionAlbum posted Sep 30, 2016 Five talented high school students participated in the Naples Branch 2016 Shakespeare Competition on Saturday, February 20, 2016. The winner was Fort Myers High School senior, Jinji Martine, who received an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City in early May. She was one of 55 semi-finalists competing in the English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition at the Lincoln Center Theater. Before enrolling at the University of Miami, Jinji plans to take a year off from her studies to volunteer teaching English to children In Mexico. Her ultimate goal is to earn a Master's Degree in English Literature and become an English teacher. |
2016 BUSS TeacherAlbum posted Sep 29, 2016 Libby Rodenbaugh, English teacher at Palmetto Ridge High School, is the recipient of the 2016 Naples Branch British University Summer School scholarship. This scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding local high school English, social studies or drama teacher to study at Oxford University, the Glob Centre in London or Edinburgh University. Libby, a Naples ESU Branch members, has coordinated her school's Shakespeare Competition for many years, including 2015 when her student Justin Del Vasto was the winner. Libby will share her experiences at Edinburgh University this past summer at the Branch's Welcome Back Dinner on Thursday, November 10, 2016. |
Branch Member RecognizedAlbum posted Sep 29, 2016 One of the distinguished Collier County teachers who recently received a Golden Apple Award was Naples High School teacher, McKenzie Morton, a Naples ESU Branch members and also recipient of the Branch's 2014 British University Summer Scholarship award. The golden Apple Awards are presented by the Champions for Learning to highlight achievements of a special few teachers, awarding each with a $5,000 grant to expand their best class ideas to help students with their careers, aspirations and ultimate goals. We salute all of the wonderful teachers in the Naples Branch who have had an impact on the education of area students. |
