Dr. Richard Mueller, a native of St. Louis, is a retired history and political science instructor. He has degrees from Saint Louis University, including a doctorate in American history and Asian studies. He taught at St. Louis University High School most of his career, and at several local colleges as an adjunct. He currently presents travelogues and downtown St. Louis walking tours for the St. Louis junior college district and Landmarks Association of St. Louis.
His publications include the book, A Century of the Symphony (a history of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra) and several articles and reviews.
As a charter member of Landmarks Association of St. Louis and as a professional tour guide Mueller tries to publicize the history and architecture of our area. He is on the board of the Society of Architectural Historians, St. Louis chapter.
One of his greatest interests is world travel. Mueller's delightfully illustrated presentation to our branch is based on an adventure in 2017, spending seven nights aboard this iconic passenger liner, the Queen Mary 2. Here's how he describes it:
We will experience the thrilling departure from New York City, traveling by Governor's Island and the Statue of Liberty, under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and out into the Atlantic Ocean. We'll explore the ship and see the interesting venues for attending musical performances and lectures, dining, drinking, having tea, and just sitting in deck chairs and watching the Atlantic Ocean. We'll see the various types of cabins — and even take a tour of the enormous kitchen. Meeting international fellow passengers yields some interesting stories, as well. Hope you will join us for the voyage!
